Many keto dieters consider the winter holiday season to be the hardest part of the year, but summer is deceptive! Cocktails, high-sugar fruits, potato and pasta salads – the list of temptations and unfriendly foods is extensive.

If you have customers or are yourself struggling to stay keto during the summer, here’s how everyone can stay on track and in ketosis!

Always Have Water

You know why hydration is necessary during the summer, but when you’re on the Keto diet, it becomes especially important! Dehydration and low levels of electrolytes can create hunger pains and stronger cravings. One goal to aim for is to drink half your body weight (in ounces) every day.

Don’t be caught off guard, either – carry a reusable water bottle wherever you go! Adding safe additives like pink salt may help, too; this salt can replenish much-needed electrolytes and balance the body’s pH levels.

Be Ready At All Times

Speaking of being caught off guard… if your summer is (and in 2021, hopefully) full of backyard gatherings, know that the host may not be thinking of your dietary requirements. Of course, summer parties are jam-packed with keto-friendly meat options, but you have to watch out for what goes on the meat: sauces can be full of sugar.

If you’re concerned and are comfortable enough to check, ask the host if they can tell you what’s on the menu. While you’re talking to them, see if you can bring a keto-friendly recipe for the festivities!

Stock Up On Snacks

For most people, summer means snacks: s’mores, popsicles, and ice cream are all warm-weather favourites. While none of them are ketogenic, you’ll find many great foods to replace them and satisfy your cravings!

If you’re someone with a sweet tooth, KetoNut Fat Bombs are more than capable of filling your sugar habit. Our granola, keto-friendly and full of healthy fats (how many granolas can say that?) also serves this purpose, and it makes for the ideal breakfast on a summer morning. Collared Pig Pork Rinds are great for when a salty snack like potato chips would improve an outdoor movie experience!

Plan Ahead – Especially If You’re Going On Vacation

Pick a consistent day to meal plan and prepare ketogenic meals and snacks for the week (or weeks) ahead. Your schedule may require more flexibility during the summer – you never know when a last-minute beach trip or ball game is in your future – but by doing a little planning, you’ll avoid a keto emergency.

Preparations are necessary even when you’re taking a vacation. Do a little planning around your diet: pack your keto necessities, look for restaurants or stores that will meet your dietary requirements, and book accommodations that have necessary appliances like a refrigerator or microwave.
